VIANDEN, Henry, or Heinrich (1814-1898), born in Poppel, Germany, was trained as an engraver as well as a painter.  He studied in Munich and left with his family for America in 1849 and settled in Milwaukee.  There he became the leading landscape painter for almost half a century.  Some of the best Wisconsin artists of the latter 19th century were his students.
